Friday, March 24th, 2017

2:00PM Registration Opens

When you arrive please enter the site through the lower entrance located just across the railroad tracks.  The lower gate will be open to drive in. Participants are to park in the main visitor parking area.  Check-in at the Mars Education Center Desk (East building with red doors and shutters.)  After registration participants will be given designated barracks space to stay in. 

  • Please move cars to the parking lot as soon as possible after unloading. Please keep all modern items (bottles, cans, & food containers included) in period spaces to a minimum.

6:00PM-10:00PM École du soldat

Presentations and classes will be held on the following:

  • French battalion & company structure

  • Camping regulations

  • Barracks regulations

  • Mess equipment

  • Drum signals.

Food will be included.  Please plan accordingly to be present and on time for these presentations.  This is a huge opportunity to learn the systems and culture of how the French Army operated.  This will better your understanding of the subject and allow for a better interpretation of Le Piquet.

All quiet in the Fort. Seriously, go to bed.

Saturday, March 25th, 2017

7:00AM Réveil (La Diane)

All awake in the Fort. Sergents take care to ensure that mess cooks begin breakfast.  All the bedding should be made, rooms swept clean, tables and benches washed, and arms and accoutrements put into proper order. 

8:00AM Formation du Matin (L’Assemblée)

Sergents take roll of the company, inspection, and orders for the day. Any remaining room cleaning, consumption of food, gear maintenance, or other duties should be completed following this formation.

8:45AM Rations Issued (La Fascine)
On the sound of the drums, mess cooks will assemble to be issued mess gear and rations. Immediately after the mess cooks will begin cooking dinner.

9:00AM-9:45AM Premier Exercice (L’Assemblée)
The detachment will practice forming, facing, marching, and wheeling.

10:00AM Fort Opens to Visitors

10:00AM-10:45AM Deuxième exercice(L’Assemblée)

The detachment will practice loading and firing step by step and quick firing.

11:00AM Musket Demonstration (Général)

The detachment of Le Piquet will form on the parade five minutes before 11:00AM.  Each man to have his fusil in working order, centurion with epee and bayonet, pulverin or corn, and giberne filled with cartouche. He will be properly dressed according to the orders of the morning.

11:30AM-12:30PM Oeuvre (La Fascine)

Parties of the detachment as led by non-commissioned officers will take part in the several fatigue duties such as building fascines, gabions, scaling ladders, soldier’s bunks, and other jobs. These duties will be assigned at morning orders.

12:30PM Dîner (L’Assemblee)

Sergeants will take roll. Immediately following mess cooks should complete dinner and issue it out to their mess inside their designated barracks space.

1:00PM-1:45PM Entretien des Fusils et des équipement

Sergents will see that each soldier cleans his guns, changes flint as needed, pipeclay to any belting, shine any brass, and maintain other gear in their designated barracks space.

2:00PM Musket Demonstration (Général)

The detachment of Le Piquet will form on the parade five minutes before 2:00PM.  Each man to have his fusil in working order, centurion with epee and bayonet, pulverin or corn, and giberne filled with cartouche. He will be properly dressed according to the orders of the morning.

2:30PM-3:30PM Oeuvre (La Fascine)

Parties of the detachment as led by non-commissioned officers will take part in the several fatigue duties such as building fascines, gabions, scaling ladders, soldier’s bunks, and other jobs. These duties will be assigned at morning orders.

3:30PM-4:30PM Troisième exercice (L’Assemblée)
A detachment of Le Piquet will take down the flag.  Immediately following the detachment will practice firing by platoons and from behind a parapet.

4:00PM Fort Closes to Visitors

5:00PM Souper

Mess cooks should complete supper and issue it out to their mess inside their designated barracks space. Any participants not staying over may carry out baggage and equipment to their cars.

7:00PM Battre en Retraite (La Retraite)
All those staying over will form on the parade for roll and orders.  Immediately following all are to repair to their quarters.

10:00PM Battre le Tambour

All quiet in the Fort. Seriously, go to bed.

Sunday, March 26th, 2017

10:00AM Fort Closes

All those who stayed over will pack up all equipment and gear and depart from the site.
