During Your Week in Ticonderoga
A shuttle bus will be provided to transport NEH Summer Scholars between the Best Western and Fort Ticonderoga. NEH Summer Scholars are welcome to drive to Fort Ticonderoga on their own if they wish.
By Air
Fort Ticonderoga is about an hour and Forty-five minutes from Burlington International Airport in Burlington, Vermont and about two hours from Albany International Airport in Albany, New York.
Most major airlines provide service to both airports. Southwest Airlines serves Albany while JetBlue serves Burlington.
There is no public transportation between either airport and Fort Ticonderoga. NEH Summer Scholars arriving by plane should plan on renting a car at the airport.

By Train
Amtrak’s “Adirondack” route serves the Ticonderoga station, located about one mile from Fort Ticonderoga and about three miles from the Best Western Ticonderoga Inn and Suites. The northbound train from New York City is scheduled to arrive at Ticonderoga at 1:17pm daily. The southbound train for New York City is scheduled to depart Ticonderoga at 2:33pm daily. Both trains frequently run behind schedule.
From the station, taxi service is available. You will need to call a taxi by cell phone as no phone is available at the station.
Amtrak and Enterprise Rent-a-Car have teamed together to provide rental cars at the station. You must make arrangements in advance with Enterprise.
By Car
Fort Ticonderoga is located on NYS Route 74 one mile east of the downtown Ticonderoga. For those traveling with a GPS system, input “100 Fort Road, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.”
Best Western Ticonderoga Inn and Suites is located at 260 Burgoyne Road, just off NYS Route 74, about 17 miles from Exit 28 of Interstate 87 (also known as the Adirondack Northway). For those traveling with a GPS system, input “260 Burgoyne Road, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.”
PLEASE NOTE: For those traveling from the east, the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry (toll) connecting Shoreham, Vermont, and Ticonderoga, New York, only runs during daylight hours. Check www.Forttiferry.com for detailed schedule. The States of New York and Vermont provide free, 24-hour ferry service connecting West Addison, Vermont, and Crown Point, New York, during the construction of the new Champlain Bridge.
DIRECTIONS TO BEST WESTERN TICONDEROGA INN AND SUITES
From Interstate 87 (including from the Albany Airport) - Take Exit 28 ("Ticonderoga Ferry"). Take NYS Route 74 east, 14 miles to traffic light at junction of NYS Route 9N and 22 (McDonald’s at intersection). Proceed straight half a mile. Turn right on Burgoyne Road. The Best Western Ticonderoga Inn and Suites is on your left.
From Burlington, Vermont (including from the Burlington Airport) - Follow US Route 7 south from Burlington. In about 22 miles, turn right on VT Route 22A at Vergennes. In six miles, turn right on VT Route 17 toward “Ferry to New York.” In about 8 miles take the free, 24-hour ferry to New York. On the New York side, follow the road for four miles and bear left on NYS Routes 9N and 22. In about twelve miles, turn left at the traffic light (McDonald’s at intersection) on to NYS Route 74 east and 22 south. Proceed half a mile. Turn right on Burgoyne Road. The Best Western Ticonderoga Inn and Suites is on your left.
