What’s more exciting than building a fort? EXPLORING ONE! Fort Ticonderoga is filled with adventure as you and your family step into a moment in time. Each year our talented team brings to life a specific year and historic story that is sure to delight and engage your entire family.
- Step into the Trades Shops as skilled craftsmen make the clothing, shoes, accouterments used at Fort Ticonderoga today. Through hands-on demonstrations, explore the construction of familiar, everyday objects. Every tool tells a story, from global networks of trade to today’s detectives who study these period crafts to keep them alive.
- Take a family guided tour and explore all the armies that made Fort Ticonderoga their home including French, British, and American. Learn about the imposing fort’s design and get the inside scoop on all the great hands-on opportunities that make for a memorable visit for the whole family!
- Be sure to thrill at our daily cannon and musket firing demonstrations. Experience the meticulous procedures designed for loading and firing to protect this strategic citadel. When the demonstrations are over, be sure to get a picture with a soldier!
- Participate in our In His Majesty’s Service program for an immersive and hands-on experience of history trades and soldiers’ lives. During this program, be sure to visit the Historic Trades shops, camp kitchen, and historical gardens!
- Head into the hands-on Artillery Laboratory to try your hand at lifting a cannon barrel and try on uniforms from different armies!
- No visit to Fort Ticonderoga is complete without a family photo with our epic cannon!
Outdoor Fun
Fort Ticonderoga’s historic landscape includes 2000 acres, offering space to run, climb, and explore!
- Visit the King’s Garden and roll up your sleeves into fun garden activities that will engage your senses. Be sure to stop in and visit our friendly heritage breed animals, including our Dominique chickens and oxen, Mick & Mack!
- The Heroic Corn Maze: A Corn Maze Adventure is a 6-acre life-size puzzle specifically designed for Fort Ticonderoga. The design changes each year, making it a great annual family tradition. Conquer the Heroic Maze mid-August through October.
- Hiking is a great part of your family’s Fort Ticonderoga experience. Stop by the Guest Service Desk and pick up a hiking trail brochure to help guide your way around the historic 1.7-mile loop!
- If water exploration is more your speed, take a 90-minute guided boat cruise aboard our tour boat, Carillon, to explore centuries of stirring maritime heritage with panoramic vistas around you and a sonar view of shipwrecks below. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase. Relax and enjoy the ride!
- Be sure to finish your Fort Ticonderoga adventure with a visit to Mount Defiance where you can have a birds-eye view of the majestic and historic region. Pack a picnic lunch from America’s Fort Cafe to bring up to Mount Defiance and enjoy it in the picnic shelter located at the top of the mountain.

America’s Fort Cafe, a family-friendly dining experience, is located in the Log House Welcome Center. Enjoy delicious sandwiches, fresh salads, burgers, and fries, as well as homemade desserts and ice cream that will delight your family. Play a game of Shut-the-Box while you enjoy lunch with majestic views of Lake Champlain and the beautiful surrounding Adirondack and the Green Mountains. Be sure to visit the Museum Store also located in the Log House to bring home your own game of Shut-the-Box or other Fort Ticonderoga favorites such as wood muskets and other souvenirs for the whole family!

- Picnic tables are located near the Log House Welcome Center, King’s Garden, and Mount Defiance.
- Bathrooms are located in the Log House Welcome Center and the Mars Education Center.
- Vending machines are located outside of the Log House Welcome Center and bottled water can be purchased at America’s Fort Cafe as well as the Museum Store.
- Does your family include a dog? Fort Ticonderoga welcomes dogs onto our property, however, they must remain leashed and attended to at all times. Only certified service animals are allowed in the buildings, the King’s Garden, and the Carillon boat. Please don’t forget to clean up after your four-legged friend!
