Bullets & Blades: The Weapons of America’s Colonial Wars and Revolution Fort Ticonderoga’s presents the museum’s best weapons and the most recent scholarship offering a fresh interpretation of its rich history and the role arms played in the founding of America and its struggle for liberty. For over a century, Fort Ticonderoga has been recognized for its extensive and encyclopedic collection of historic weapons. A staple of the museum’s exhibitions for the past 80+ years has been its displays of weapons of the colonial wars and Revolution. In recent years significant additions have been made to the collection through strategic acquisition and major donation. The most significant addition to the collection in recent years was the donation of the Grafton H. and Barbara W. Cook Collection of early weapons. The Cook Collection greatly supplements the museum’s already impressive collection of early weapons by filling significant holes and greatly broadening its scope in several key areas. Organized by theme, this exhibit will explore the roles of military, civil, and hunting weapons in early American society and how through necessity and design, these weapons all came together to arm a fledgling American army struggling to become free. |
