During Your Week in Ticonderoga
A shuttle bus will be provided to transport NEH Summer Scholars between the Best Western Plus and Fort Ticonderoga. NEH Summer Scholars are welcome to drive to Fort Ticonderoga on their own if they wish.
Fort Ticonderoga is about an hour and forty-five minutes from Burlington International Airport in Burlington, Vermont, and about two hours from Albany International Airport in Albany, New York.
Most major airlines provide service to both airports. Southwest Airlines serves Albany; JetBlue serves Burlington.
There is no public transportation between either airport and Fort Ticonderoga. NEH Summer Scholars arriving by plane should plan on renting a car at the airport. The Project Director can help faciliate shared car rentals from both airports.
While flights may be cheaper into Albany International Airport, car rentals are often cheaper at the Burlington International Airport.
See “By Car” below for directions from the airport.
Amtrak’s “Adirondack” route serves the Ticonderoga station, located about one mile from Fort Ticonderoga and about three miles from the Best Western Plus Ticonderoga Inn and Suites. The northbound train from New York City is scheduled to arrive at Ticonderoga at 1:22 pm daily. The southbound train for New York City is scheduled to depart Ticonderoga at 3:18 pm daily. Both trains frequently run behind schedule. Consult the most recent Amtrak timetable for the Adirondack route for up-to-date schedule.
For those arriving by train on Sunday, Fort Ticonderoga will provide a shuttle to transport you to the Best Western Plus. You must notify the Project Director in advance if you need transportation from the station to the hotel. Likewise, a shuttle will be provided on Saturday for anyone requiring transportation to the station (the southbound train departs before the program is completed on Friday).
Fort Ticonderoga is located on NYS Route 74 one mile east of downtown Ticonderoga. For those traveling with a GPS system, input “100 Fort Ti Road, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.”
Best Western Plus Ticonderoga Inn and Suites is located at 260 Burgoyne Road, just off NYS Route 74, about 17 miles from Exit 28 of Interstate 87 (also known as the Adirondack Northway). For those traveling with a GPS system, input “260 Burgoyne Road, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.”
PLEASE NOTE: For those traveling from the east, the Fort Ticonderoga Ferry (toll) connecting Shoreham, Vermont, and Ticonderoga, New York, only runs during daylight hours. The Champlain Bridge connects West Addison, Vermont, with Crown Point, New York, about 15 miles north of Ticonderoga, and is the primary way to cross Lake Champlain when traveling to Fort Ticonderoga from Burlington and northern New England.
