Fort Ticonderoga will host Homeschool Day for homeschool students and their parents on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 9:30 am-5:00 pm. Homeschool families will participate in interactive and immersive programs, visit museum exhibitions, and explore the historic site, including the King’s Garden, Carillon Battlefield Hiking Trail, and the Heroic Corn Maze. Other special opportunities will also be available during the “To Act as One United Body” program and aboard the Carillon tour boat.
Special this year, Homeschool Day will feature the story of 1781 as participants discover the later years of the Revolutionary War and the naval fleet on Lake Champlain amongst bustling British soldiers and sailors! Explore the math and science of sailing ships, moving soldiers, supplies, and cannon. Get the in-depth story of naval musketry and artillery through two weapon demonstrations! Try hands-on games and puzzles in the Artillery Laboratory.
See the beauty of the King’s Garden and create your own special memories through watercolors or roll up your sleeves to help tend the vegetables and flowers. Find your way through towering stalks of corn in the new 2018 Heroic Corn Maze design from 12:00-4:00 pm!
Programs take place in the historic trades shops at 10:40 am, 12:40 pm, and 2:30 pm. A program at 12:00 pm illustrates the process of feeding the troops as the mid-day meal is prepared.
Embark on a 90-minute narrated boat cruise aboard the tour boat Carillon, special for home-school families at 10:30 am. Practice drills and formations of American soldiers at Ticonderoga during the Revolutionary War and observe a musket demonstration during the “To Act as One United Body” program at 12:30 pm.
