Presenting vibrant programs, historic interpretation, boat cruises, tours, demonstrations, and exhibits, Fort Ticonderoga and is open for daily visitation May through October and special programs during Winter Quarters, November through April. A sunny #TradesTuesday was a great day for laundry! Women with the British Army made a living with the skilled craft of cleaning linen shirts, tablecloths, and sheets. Each day in #REALTIMEREVOLUTION discover how the #RevolutionaryWar impacted more than just soldiers, even before the war at #FortTiconderoga in 1774.

#OTD in 1774 Lieutenant Arthur Wadman of the 26th Regiment was far from his regiment's headquarters in Canada. He was actually in Brunswick, New Jersey, where the regiment had been stationed 7 years earlier. Wadman was one of a few officers that married New Jersey women while on duty there. He was likely visiting his wife's family when on May 7, 1774, his commander, Lieutenant Colonel Dudley Templar (who had also married a New Jersey woman), ordered him to report back to the regiment in Canada.

Lieutenant Wadman would return to New Jersey again in 1775, and was again ordered back to the regiment, this time to Ticonderoga. Unfortunately on that occasion he arrived on May 10, just hours after the fort had been taken by Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen, and walked directly into captivity.

#OTD in 1774 the "New Hampshire Gazette" published "Remarks, &c. on some late Laws passed in New-York."

While it doesn't sound like much, the laws referred to in the title branded Ethan Allen and other Green Mountain Boys as outlaws by the Province of New York. The "Remarks" amounted to a manifesto of their loyalty the crown, but their defiance of unjust laws. They vehemently resisted New York's authority, and concluded by asserting that they were “under a Necessity of resisting unto Blood, every Person who may attempt to take us as Fellons or Rioters”

Many of these individuals, fully prepared for armed conflict, would take leading roles in the capture of Ticonderoga as the Revolution began almost a year later.
