The Fort Ticonderoga Fort Fever Series features presentations by Fort Ticonderoga staff.
President William Howard Taft came to Fort Ticonderoga on July 6, 1909, as part of the Champlain Tercentenary Celebrations. Thousands flocked to the Ticonderoga peninsula to see the President and commemorate the 300th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s arrival on the lake that bears his name in 1609. Explore the preparation and months of planning that went into the event with Rich Strum, Director of Academic Program. Learn about the day’s festivities and the route Taft took to arrive in time for the celebration.
