Virtual Author Series featuring Eugene Procknow

November 5, 2023

The Fort Ticonderoga Author Series features presentations by authors of books related to Colonial and Revolutionary War history.

William Hunter, the son of a Revolutionary War British soldier, witnessed the terrors of combat and capture and penned the only surviving Revolutionary account written by a child of a British soldier. Remarkably, Hunter immigrated to America and became a gutsy Kentucky newspaper editor and a prominent politician, businessman, and community leader. His story is told in Eugene Procknow’s book William Hunter, Finding Free Speech: A British Soldier’s Son Who Became an Early American

A former management consultant with one of the largest global consulting firms, Eugene Procknow established a second career as a writer and a historian of the American Revolution. Since 2013, he has authored 20 scholarly articles for the prestigious, peer-reviewed Journal of the American Revolution, a leading source for information on the American Revolution and the nation’s founding. For seven consecutive years (2015 through 2021) running, at least one of Gene’s essays has been selected for the print edition of the Annual Volume of the Journal of the American Revolution. Gene lives in Washington, DC, with his wife and two adult sons.

Your participation in these online programs through the Center for Digital History supports Fort Ticonderoga’s mission to preserve, educate, and provoke an active discussion about the past and its importance to present and future generations.
